Do you own your own business? If the answer is yes, the next question I have for you is do you have a solid headshot that represents your professionalism?
Did you know that you only have 7 seconds to make a first generalized impression?? Yes that's right people! 7 seconds. If a potential client goes to your website and the first time they see you it's an iPhone photo of you at a party with a glass of wine in your hand, red eyes and the other people cropped out, what does that say to them about your standard of work and professionalism? This may seem harsh but I have always felt that if you can't "afford" to have a professional headshot done of yourself then you probably aren't doing that well in your business and if you aren't doing that well in your business...well that indicates to me that you probably aren't that good at what you are doing. I know, I know... that is a big generalization but if you follow the logic it just makes sense.
A series of experiments by Princeton psychologists reveal that all it takes is a TENTH OF A SECOND to form an impression of a stranger from their face, and that longer exposures don’t significantly alter those impressions (although they might boost your confidence in your judgments). THAT'S INSANE ON SO MANY LEVELS!
Like it or not, judgments based on facial appearance play a powerful role in how we treat others, and how we get treated. Psychologists have long known that "attractive" people get better outcomes in practically all walks of life. People with “mature” faces receive more severe judicial outcomes than “baby-faced” people. And having a face that looks competent (as opposed to trustworthy or likeable) may matter a lot in whether a person gets elected to public office.
This concept perfectly illustrates the importance of having well done personal branding images of yourself and your staff if you are a business owner. No matter if you are a realtor, a doctor, a spa owner, a horse trainer, a salesman or any of the million other professions out there, having a good, professional headshot done is a direct reflection of your commitment to professionalism.
So if you haven't had your headshot taken or your its been a few years since the last one I would encourage you to come see me or if you don't live in Bozeman or Jackson Hole then look around in your area for a great headshot photographer and get your session booked!
